Mr. Urbach has served as a senior principal at DFA since February 1999. He is responsible for the development of artificial economies and investment strategies in simulations.
Prior to joining DFA, from November 1993 to December 1998, Mr. Urbach served as a director of Panther Capital Advisors Ltd. in London, where he was responsible for co-managing $100 million in managed futures accounts covering all major government bond markets, stock indices, foreign exchange and precious metals.
From May 1991 to October 1993, Mr. Urbach served as managing director (and was the founder) of Epsilon Associates Ltd. in London, a consultancy specializing in technologies applicable to investment banking and securities trading.
From December 1988 to May 1991, Mr. Urbach served as deputy managing director of Sanwa International Ltd. in London, where he was responsible for creating a proprietary options trading desk.
From January 1985 to November 1988, Mr. Urbach served as a deputy director of UBS in London, where he established a product development group and cross-market arbitrage group for derivatives trading. From 1980 to 1985, Mr. Urbach served as a director in the Analytic Systems Group of Morgan Stanley in New York.
From 1977 to 1980, Mr. Urbach served as a manager in the financial planning products group of the Corporate Finance Department of Citibank in New York. Mr. Urbach holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Mathematical Statistics from Columbia University and is the author of Footprints of Chaos in the Markets, a work addressing the application of chaotic systems analysis to time series from financial markets and other physical systems.
