Mr. Hooker joined the Company in 1999. As head of the Non-Life (Property-Casualty) implementation practice in Europe, he is currently responsible for modeling the Non-Life insurance operations of DFA's European clients. He earlier implemented DFA models for two early US Property-Casualty clients and contributed to the conceptual development of the ADVISETM software. Mr. Hooker is a Fellow of the UK’s Institute of Actuaries and holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Cambridge University.
Prior to joining the Company, from 1996 to 1999, Mr. Hooker served as Reinsurance Actuary, Deputy Group Chief Actuary and Capital Management Actuary at Zurich Financial Services’ Head Office in Zurich. In these positions he developed ZFS’s approach to Risk-Based Capital attribution, led reviews of the liabilities of the largest ZFS operating companies worldwide, and evaluated the reserve adequacy of a major acquisition target of ZFS. In addition, he was a member of the ZFS team developing the DFA concept prior to the formation of DFA.
Between 1991 and 1996, Mr. Hooker held Chief Actuary positions with two ZFS operating companies in the London Market. These subsidiaries wrote approximately $500 million of reinsurance and specialty commercial lines insurance business. The role involved assessments of company reserves and pricing of large accounts.
Professionally, Mr. Hooker has chaired working groups of the UK’s Institute of Actuaries on the topics Risk Based Capital and Reserving for Outwards Reinsurance; and in 1995 he was elected Deputy Chairman of the London Market Actuaries Group.
Between 1986 and 1989, Mr. Hooker was an actuarial consultant with the London offices of Tillinghast and Watson Wyatt, specializing in Non-Life insurance. Before that, his actuarial career began in the Life insurance industry with Legal & General Group in London.
